Ptarmigan Logs

Date

Fall 2021

Ptarmigan Logs is an inhabitable wall structure located in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park. Despite being in harsh conditions, Ptarmigan Logs’ design is centered around sheltering inhabitants from the wind. Inspiration is taken from log cabins and igloos. The influence of log cabins is seen in the large triangular panels, with the exterior pattern of the wood mimicking that of a traditional log cabin. The influence of the igloos is from the idea of using the snow that builds up on the walls as insulation for the space inside, similar to in an igloo.
